Dear student,

Welcome

You may use this section for the second term review. There's also  a collection of items you should take into account:

Simple, compound, and complex sentences

FEATURES OF NON- CHRONOLOGICAL REPORTS

Punctuation

Remember how to find a quotation in a text:

Important tips and questions you must understand before your exam:

1.       Why do authors use short sentences sometimes?
/Because they introduce a surprising/shocking fact
/because they emphasize the idea of the danger.
/ Because they clarify an idea.

2.       Which are the main features of reports?

·         They are written in third person.
• They are written in present tense.
•  They are made of formal language.
• They show mostly facts.
• Technical/subject-specific language.

3.        Taking quotations from a text :
Find a quotation indicating the narrator is unhappy having English classes.

When I went to talk to my teacher, she was busy so I decided to go home and wait until the next day. This classes make me bored and lazy, I can’t keep on being a part of this class. Soon I will be a professional so I must give my best.
The quotation is: ‘This classes make me bored and lazy’

4.       Remember that when authors use CAPITAL LETTERS in a text, they want you to:
·         Focus your attention on something
·         because an instruction is essential
Eg:
After you take the cake out of the oven, DO NOT add sugar until it has cooled down.

5.       Sometimes authors use short sentences because they want the reader to:
to make the sentences clear / easy to read/understand

to separate the instructions from the explanations

6. Comparing texts:

The purpose of the first text is to inform / tell you about something.

The process of photosynthesis

Plants need food to respire, grow and reproduce. Unlike animals, plants are able to make their own food by the process of photosynthesis.

Photosynthesis takes place in the part of the plant cell containing chloroplasts, these are small structures that contain chlorophyll.

For photosynthesis to take place, plants need to take in carbon dioxide (from the air), water (from the ground) and light (usually from the sun).

The purpose of the second text is to instruct / tell you how something happens.
